The Meetings and Education Manager, International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS) is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of profitable meetings, courses, educational experiences, and programming.  Guide and provide recommendations to relevant committees and provide reviews and analyses to aid in strategic decisions.  Assist with the direction and management of the Society’s operations, programs, activities, and affairs to facilitate and maintain a healthy and viable organization in accordance with key association management principles, ethics, and the Society’s strategic plan.   

Manage logistical and operational elements of meetings, courses and educational offerings within budget and timelines.       

  • Produce meetings and programs within designated budgets; meet or surpass each event’s goals.
  • Manage the financial health and stability of meetings and educational offerings. Propose draft meeting budgets and work with Society Director to incorporate them into the Society’s annual budget; ensure accurate communications and timely approval of invoices.
  • Plan and implement all logistical and operational elements of meetings and educational offerings, which include site selection, contract negotiations, program planning and development, speaker selection, evaluation, marketing and social media, hotel and AV arrangements (i.e. BEOs, floor plans, exhibit hall, etc.), tour operators, and on-site management.  Develop requests for proposal, prepare proposal comparison grids for review; make recommendations for Director’s decision. 
  • Recommend marketing and promotional strategies; manage the creation, production, and distribution of all print and electronic materials.
  • Provide assistance to local host and committee chairs.
  • Oversee abstract management, program and agenda book development and distribution, speaker solicitation and confirmation, and registration.
  • Ensure meetings and programs are produced on time, within budget, and meet goals.
  • Oversee all aspects of the development, management, and evaluation of the curriculum, speakers, and faculty.
  • Serve as a liaison to speakers.  Communicate with speakers regarding logistics.  Develop, collect, and record required “paperwork”, including agreements, presentations, and handouts.
  • Serve as liaison to exhibitors.  Prepare exhibitor prospectus, solicit companies for exhibiting opportunities, prepare marketing and related communication materials, communicate with exhibitors regarding conference logistics, and work with conference decorator regarding exhibitor service kits and exhibit hall logistics.  Serve as the onsite exhibitor contact.
  • Manage the evaluation process, recommend new learning or environment formats to enhance attendees’ experiences; implement as directed.
  • Manage on-site logistics and oversee staff involvement.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of materials for CME credit; ensure programs comply with ACCME regulations.
  • Update and maintain procedures and timelines.
  • Provides progress reports as needed; provide final analysis report for each meeting.

Provide support and guidance to leadership and staff.

  • Work with the leadership of the Education Committee, CME Committee, and Exhibitor Advisory Board to implement the committees’ deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Guide and mentor staff responsible for supporting educational programming, communications, and marketing.
  • Develop and present appropriate reports at leadership meetings; develop and maintain effective communications and relations with leadership.  

Provide organizational support.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     

  • Assist with the development, management, and communications related to Society’s operating budget. 
  • With director and leadership, develop strategic plans; develop and implement operating plans to achieve goals outlined in the strategic plans.  Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services that support the Society’s mission. Assist with ensuring outcomes are on time and within budget.
  • Manage assigned committees and indirect reports to ensure an efficient and effective management team.  Assist Society Director in training staff, assigning projects and tasks, and ensuring staff can execute all policies and assigned programs to attain the Society’s goals and individual performance goals. Contribute to a culture of trust and collaboration.
  • Foster excellent member service and program management.



Approximately 20 days per year

International travel may be required.

Evening conference calls and weekend meetings.




Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.

At least five years of meeting planning experience, including contract negotiations, financial management, communications management, event marketing, crisis management, and volunteer development and management. 

At least three years supervisory experience.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Excellent member service mentality and delivery; effective verbal and written communications; strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.  Ability to think proactively and creatively.  Ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines successfully.

Must excel in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.  Cooperative, supportive, and “can do” attitude is crucial to success.  This person must have integrity and credibility with leaders, members, vendors, and staff.


Certified Meeting Planner.  Experience with Personify.
